ABSTRACT:

Population means the whole number of people, or inhabitant, in a country, or portion of country population explosion mean very rapid and unprecedented growth of population which create lots of problems in the country. The research design adopted was pre experimental one group pre-test post design. The conceptual framework based on modified Ludwing Von Bertanalyffys General system model. The study has been conducted in selected school, wankaner Non Probability convenient sampling technique has been adopted to select the desired sample. The sample size was 60.As an intervention of 20 minute of sterilisation was administered to group. The data was collected through structured knowledge questionnaire level of knowledge assess among pre-adolescent girl. The collected data were analysed by using both descriptive and inferential statistical method. ”t” test was used for assessing the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on level of knowledge among pre-adolescent girl. The obtained “t” value was 10.72 which was significant at 0.05. level. The finding of the study was revealed that structured teaching programme helps in increasing the level of knowledge Among all the demographic variable only education of mother and father, occupation of mother and father and sources of information was significant at 0.05level.

KEYWORDS: Effectiveness, Structured teaching programme, Knowledge, abuse, child, pre –adolescent girl.

INTRODUCTION:

Life is a journey. The human beings travel through the various stages of life like infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. Human Development is the process of growing to maturity1. Human beings will not enjoy development without security, they will not enjoy security without development and they will not enjoy either without respect for human rights.

The development of human beings directly correlates with their rights to survive in the world. There is a rough schedule of milestones for physiological development; though each child develops at a different pace. A child's right to survival begins before a child is born. According to Government of India, a child life begins after twenty weeks of conception. All children have the right to protection. They have the right to survive, to be safe, to belong, to be heard, to receive adequate care and to grow up in a protective environment2.

The family is the first line of protection for children. Parents or other caregivers are responsible for building a protective and loving home environment. Schools and communities are responsible for building a safe and child-friendly environment outside the children‘s home. Children undergo different changes in their life. Especially during pre-adolescence stage, child's body, regardless of sex, will begin to change shape and mature. Whether she is an early or late bloomer, change is inevitable and will commence in its own time - like tooth development, it cannot be hurried or slowed.3

Most of the parents hesitate to speak to their children about physical and emotional changes that take place during their growing years and the sexuality. The girl, whose mother has not spoken to her even about a basic issue like menstruation, is unable to tell her mother about the uncle or neighbor who has made abuses towards her. This silence encourages the abuser so that he is emboldened to continue the abuse and to press his advantage to subject the child to more severe forms of abuse. As a result of this, all forms of l abuse that a child faces do not get reported to anyone.4

NEED FOR THE STUDY:

The impact of child abuse can range from no apparent effects to very severe ones. Typically, children who experience the most serious types of abuse, abuse involving family members and high degrees of physical force, exhibit behavior problems ranging from separation anxiety to posttraumatic stress disorder. Their physical and psychological disturbances may increases further if they become repeatedly sexually abused. This is commonly occurring due to lack of knowledge regarding child abuse. Therefore, correctly identifying child sexual abuse is often complex.

Investing in the world’s 1.8 billion adolescents aged 10-12 are there, UNICEF today in its 2014 State of the World’s Children report entitled ‘Adolescence: An Age of Opportunity’. India is home to more than 243 million adolescents, who account for quarter of the country’s population.5

OBJECTIVES :

·         To assess the pretest level of knowledge regarding child abuse among pre-adolescent girls.

·         To determine the outcome of information education communication on level of knowledge regarding child abuse among pre-adolescent girls.

·         To associate the posttest level of knowledge regarding child abuse among pre-adolescent girls with their demographic variables.

HYPOTHESIS:

H1-There will be a significant difference between the pretest and posttest level of knowledge regarding child abuse among pre-adolescent girls.

H2-There will be an association between the pretest level of knowledge regarding child abuse among pre-adolescent girls with their demographic variables.

MATERIAL AND METHOD:

Research Approach:

A Qantitative approach.

Research design:

Pre experimental one group pretest posttest design.

Variable:

Independent Variable:

Information education communication on child abuse

Dependent Variable:

Knowledge of the pre-adolescent girl

Demographic Variables:

Age, religion, order of birth , number of siblings, education of the father, education of the mother, occupation of the father, occupation of the mother, income of the family, source of information , type of family, type of living area.

Sample:

Total 60 sample

Sampling technique:

Non probability convenience sampling technique.

Description of tool:

PART I:

It include socio demographic variable of preadolescent girl Age, religion, order of birth, number of sibling, mother and father Education, occupation of mother and father, types of family, types of living area, Monthly income, sources of information.

PART II :

It include structured knowledge question to assess the knowledge regarding child abuse.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION:

Reveal that majority is having inadequate level of knowledge (53%), than (28%) is having moderately adequate level of knowledge, and only (19%) is having adequate level of knowledge in pretest level of knowledge. And In posttest, majority have got moderately adequate level of knowledge (50%), than (37%) got adequate level of knowledge and only (13%) got inadequate level of knowledge.
